The Platinum Cashback Everyday is the no-fee way into Amex cashback, with a higher intro rate for the first few months then a flat ongoing rate. There's usually a minimum annual spend before any cashback pays out, so a very light spender can end up earning nothing. On GBP 12,000 a year at the standard rate you'd net a fairly small sum, which is why bigger spenders do better on the fee-paying version.
